Tauber-Cabinet will be presented at the [D3] CONTEST during the imm cologne. The idea behind the design of Tauber-Cabinet is based on the dealing with conventional coverings of ventilation shafts. Tauber-Cabinet is a symbiosis between a bench and a sideboard. The typical character of surfaces, covers and structures made of metal is rudimental of the design and the construction. The diagonal bends of the brass plate are important for the stability as well as the pattern. Space and furniture are melded together by the reflections on the brass surface. This contrasts to the the closed and industrial aspect of the metal casing.

The shelf Epos is made of solid wood and powder-coated metal elements. The design concept makes a multitude of combinations in the distance of the boards and their length possible. Epos works either as a singular element or as shelving wall in a straight line. The stability of the shelf enable it to be used as a freestanding room divider or as a traditional against-the-wall unit. The idea behind the design is to use timber wedges to fix the shelf together. The construction or deconstruction is based on a minimum of work and tools. To individualize Epos, you have the opportunity to attach different kind of boxes and surfaces to this system.

Once Upon a Chair is an international up-to-the minute survey of contemporary furniture design. The book captures the zeitgeist of this rigorous industry by examining current trends and presenting pioneering examples by the world’s most influential designers and emerging talents.
Sebastian Herkner was chosen to be part of this new publication. The collected works indicate a recognisable shift towards progressive responsible designs that make a social impact and the revival of artisanal craft. It further explores how designers are focusing more on process-driven and storytelling concepts as well as the continuing flirtation with material and technological experimentation.

Wallpaper* August: Home run. Watch our spaces for the best of this year´s designs for living.
This table stood out for us at this year´s Satellite. Unlike the perspex and white lacquer on display elsewhere, the blue glass and brass combination made a rich, confident design with a distinct antique charm.

Design Magic by Lane Crawford:
My favourite find of Milan was from graduate student Sebastian Herkner. His pieces had great form and I could really appreciate his use of materials such as maple wood, steel, copper and textiles. These were all prototypes and I sincerely hope that after the show he managed to find someone to produce his collection as I would certainly be an interested buyer.

Up and coming German designer Sebastian Herkner lauched a thoughtful collection reinterpreting traditional craft techniques. His Albion chair, in maple and leather, looks like a future classic.

Sebastian Herkner's Bell-Light _ Among those showing at Satellite, the section of the Milan fairgrounds devoted to design neophytes, Sebastian Herkner and Reinhard Dienes were clearly the ones to watch. The two Germans nailed every aspect of their shared booth, from the muted colors to the modified industrial shapes. Here, Herkner's stylized take on the spotlight.

Salone 2009: Editors' Picks (by wallpaper.com)
We went, we saw, we conquered. The Salone del Mobile is undoubtedly one of the most manic weeks for us here at Wallpaper*, and 2009 was no exception. Predictions that this year's Milan Furniture Fair would be subdued with less novelties to see, were widely off the mark. Granted the blissful weather throughout the week may have helped proceedings, but visitors were spoilt with well-designed collections, thought-provoking new launches and exhibitions and events that were heaving with well-turned-out crowds.
Back home, we asked our editors to do the impossible: go through all they saw and come up with their absolute favourite top 3.
Hugo Macdonald from wallpaper*:
Most of the launches at Satellite had contemporary cool rather than antique charm. Against a backdrop of raw wood, perspex and white metal, Sebastian Herkner’s blown glass and brass Bell Table stood out from the crowd as a very grown-up, original product.
